Our cross training program fosters skill development in: ophthalmic assistant, medical billing, front desk duties, optician skills and more.

 Our office environment is one filled with smiles, sharing tasks and teamwork.  We promote a teamwork attitude with morning huddles to discuss the day, weekly staff meetings, potluck lunches for holidays and we use staff meeting time for birthday lunches.  We have a summer family party and a smaller winter party. 

 We strive for a stress free office style and have an open door policy. When a mistake is made we don’t play the blame game, instead we investigate what went wrong and put into place methods to avoid the mistake again or give additional training.

 Our Dress Code Is Very Conservative:  We wear casual professional with conservative make-up and hair styles.  We avoid showing our tattoos or body piercing, wearing multiple earrings or strong perfumes. Our patients are mainly seniors and so we cater to what they feel most comfortable around.

Work Schedule:  Monday: 7:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. with 1 hour lunch; Tuesday: 9 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. - DUTIES: We take turns with cleaning the office and answering the phones; Wednesday: 7:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. with 1 hour lunch; Thursday: 7:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. with staff meeting during lunch; Friday: (Clinic Schedule) 7:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M or  (NO Clinic Schedule)  9 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. - DUTIES: Cleaning or answering phones. This schedule is roughly 40 hours a week. 

Everyone Must Work LASIK Tuesday:  Which happen one Tuesday about every 60 days. 

Hours Are Not Guaranteed:   If Dr. Affleck is not seeing patients at the clinic your work hours will be shortened or not scheduled.  He takes off a total of 8 weeks a year.  Normally there is only a Friday and/or Monday, however, he may take off a week for holidays and he takes two week summer vacation.  He takes time off for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, Fourth of July, School District 93’s spring break, two weeks in the summer, and every Friday in July and August.

Vacation Time: We are a small group and everyone is needed during clinic hours. We give you a yearly calendar with all Dr. Affleck’s days off for the year so you can plan your vacation time at the same time as Dr. Affleck time off. 

Benefits: Paid Holidays, Paid Time Off, Limited Free Vision Services and Aflac Insurance. Sorry, we provide no health insurance.

Wage: Starting wage is $10.00 per hour.  As your skills and knowledge grows so will your wages.  We encourage educations and will help pay for classes, or other resources. You can count on a yearly raise which is standard of living and some bonuses throughout the year.  The bonuses are dependent on our overhead.  If we make more than we spend I like to share a portion with the staff because you are a helping factor to saving money. 

The following is a description of position we offer.  Because we cross train, you may be working different positions thru the week.

Job Description: Medical Receptionist

At Affleck, M.D. Eye Care we find that the first position a team member should learn is scheduling.  Everyone helps schedule. Even though it is not hard to schedule, there are a lot of details and a special order to the questions you ask.  Scheduling is our first encounter with a patient and we want it to be the best experience for the patient we can give, so we give a lot of details.  Normal training time here is four weeks. DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Working extensively with computers, answering phones, scheduling patients, cleaning the office, obtaining authorizations, obtaining referrals, collecting co-payments and balances. Checking-in and out patients, properly documenting registration, insurance verification and verification of patient demographics. Copying and faxing duties, Entering charges, payments, and balancing the day end summaries and reports. Performs other duties as assigned including assisting the ophthalmic assistants, the opticians, billing as needed.

Job Description: Ophthalmic Assistant

You work closely with Dr. Affleck and the front desk staff.  Training takes an average of eight weeks. DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Working extensively with computers, answering phones, scheduling patients, cleaning the office, obtaining authorizations, obtaining referrals, collecting co-payments and balances. Checking-in and out patients, properly documenting registration, insurance verification and verification of patient demographics.  Copying and faxing duties, Entering charges, payments, and balancing the day end summaries and reports.  Performs other duties as assigned including assisting the ophthalmic assistants, the opticians, billing as needed.

Job Description: Optician

You work closely with Patients, Dr. Affleck and me.  You get to go “shopping” with patients for frames. You are given online training and other resources.  Training takes an average of 12 weeks. DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Working extensively with computers. Fit glasses to patient face and features, Take frame measurements, use special methods to optimize patient’s vision, understand how to determine face shape and frame shape to enhance a patient’s looks. The orders are entered to the lab by internet, Document events. Keep inventory and make price tags. Performs other duties as assigned including assisting the ophthalmic assistants, the front desk, and billing as needed.

Job Description: Biller

Dr. Affleck codes all claims, and our RCM department processing the claims, works denials and posts. However, we need staff that can work with the patient’s when they have questions and manages collections. Training takes an average of 4 weeks. DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Working extensively with computers, training on websites, understanding referral requirement and pre-authorizations.  Make phone calls to patients about payments, send collection letters, work on MIPS, and Performs other duties as assigned including assisting the ophthalmic assistants, the front desk, and optical as needed.
